Rome weekend photography workshop

February, 2026

Duration
3 days, from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon

Price:
€1,600 per person
€500 deposit due at registration checkout
Maximum 3 participants

Rome teaches you to see in layers—ancient travertine catching morning light in ways that transform stone into story, ordinary corners into extraordinary moments, Baroque courtyards hidden behind unmarked doors, contemporary street life framed by two thousand years of architecture.
This weekend workshop is about learning to read those layers, to see how light moves through architectural spaces, to understand why certain corners hold compositions that exist nowhere else.

I was born here. I'm a Roman documentary photographer and I've spent my life learning where this city shows its real character—which alleys still hold authentic Roman life, how to move through neighborhoods like someone who belongs here.
I know where morning sun hits travertine in ways that transform everything, which hidden courtyards reveal Rome's real character, how to move through this city like someone who belongs.
We'll shoot intensively—morning sessions, golden hour work, hidden locations—but we'll also eat together, drink proper espresso or prosecco, understand why Romans live the way they do.
By the end, you'll have photographs that capture Rome's soul not only its surfaces. And you'll know where to return, what to look for, how to see different.

GEAR

I encourage participants to shoot with gear they're very familiar with. Comfort is important as we'll be walking several hours daily. Bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera with multiple lenses—you'll want versatility for both architectural storytelling and intimate street moments.

It's strongly encouraged to bring a laptop computer or tablet to review your work after each shooting session. Post-processing is optional and you can use the software you're most familiar with.

FAQ

Is this more of a food tour or photography workshop?
It's a photography workshop first. But I believe you can't photograph Rome authentically without understanding its culture, and food is central to that. We'll eat well while we shoot—it's part of seeing the city properly.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes. Rome handles vegetarians easily. Most allergies can be managed. Vegan is more challenging with traditional Roman cuisine, but we'll work it out. Let me know at registration.

Will we have time to explore on our own?
Yes. I'll give you specific assignments and locations, then personal shooting time. We reconvene for critiques.

What neighborhoods will we shoot?
Not the obvious ones. Trastevere before tourists wake up. Testaccio where Romans actually live. Pigneto for contemporary street life. Hidden passages in Centro Storico. Places that tell Rome's real story.

How much should I budget for meals not included?
€30-50 per day will cover you well for meals on your own. I'll recommend specific spots where locals eat—good food, honest prices.

Can I attend if I've never shot street photography?
Yes, if you're comfortable with your camera's basic functions. I'll teach you street photography approach. But you should already know manual mode and exposure fundamentals.
