A five-day photographic journey with accommodation in Giovinazzo.

The workshop focuses on some localities of the Apulian coast, going to photograph some of the most iconic points of the region. We will have the opportunity to range from the typical jagged coasts, to the historic centers painted in white, to the trulli of the Itria Valley, to the huge salt pans of Margherita di Savoia or in the historic ports of the coast.

I will talk a lot about the local history and traditions. As a great lover of good food, I like being able to share this passion with my guests, accompanying them to new and different places, away from mass tourism, to discover the authentic food and wine traditions and culture of the Puglia region.

Itinerary

Day 1

I will pick you up at the Bari station (high-speed trains from Rome arrive every day before lunch) or at the airport.

After a quick accommodation in our accommodation in Giovinazzo (a beautiful marine center near Bari) we will go for a first session of photoshooting in the historical center and port of Trani, where there are a historic Cathedral, and a Castle near one of the most beautiful ports on the coast.

Day 2

In the morning we will go to Polignano a Mare, one of the symbolic cities of the area for its sea stacks, where the houses of the historic center are built. There are a lot of really interesting spots to photograph.

In the afternoon we head to Margherita di Savoia, a city where we will be able to see the largest and most beautiful salt pans in Europe. We will be able to go and discover the different levels of the water, how it changes color, and look for and find the famous pink flamingos that normally populate this area.

We will shoot at sunset in Margherita di Savoia.

Day 3

In the morning we will proceed with the review of the images in the large living room of our apartment. We will be able to begin to see the works already done, how to improve them through Lightroom, how to use different post production tools.

In the afternoon and evening we will be able to direct the objectives in the historic center and in the port of the city where we are staying: Giovinazzo, a very typical marine center, with the classic colors and structures of Puglia.

Day 4

This morning we will go to the famous “white city”: Ostuni. A city famous for its conformation: it is located on a hill, a few kilometers from the sea, and from its position it dominates all the surrounding land which is almost entirely made of… centenary olive trees!

We will have the opportunity to get lost in the streets of the historic center by photographing its small streets, the typical white buildings and the many cats that populate it.

In the afternoon we will continue towards the Itria Valley, famous for the many lands of olive trees (these are also really old some hundreds of years) and the many photographic opportunities. Finally we will arrive in Alberobello, the famous city of the “trulli” of which it is largely made up.

Workshop leader

Matteo Torre

Rome, my city, is undoubtedly one of the first loves of my life, I know stories, alleys, small and big secrets that very often leave even the Romans speechless.

Yet, Puglia! A region I fell in love with, in which I traveled and which I know very well. For this reason, it is precisely here that I decided to structure this photographic workshop, traveling through some of the most iconic and wonderful places on the coast and in the hinterland of the Bari area.
